These terms cover the Chat to Markdown browser extension, this website and Chat to Markdown Pro. By installing the extension or buying Pro, you agree to them. If anything here is unclear, write to contact@shimanski.dev.
What Chat to Markdown does
It saves your conversations from ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, Perplexity, Grok, DeepSeek and GitHub Copilot as Markdown files in a folder you choose, using the accounts you already have on those sites. If you connect them, it also sends your saved chats to your own Notion, Google Drive or GitHub.
Chat to Markdown is not made by, endorsed by or affiliated with OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Microsoft, GitHub, Perplexity, xAI, DeepSeek, Notion or Obsidian.
Your chats and your folder
- Your chats and the files made from them are yours. We never receive them.
- You are responsible for using each chat service within its own terms, and for what you do with the saved files.
- The extension writes only its own files into your folder: one Markdown file per chat, the pictures and files that come with them, and a hidden
.chattomarkdownfolder with earlier versions. If you turn them on, it also writes a table-of-contents note and links in your daily note. It leaves your other files alone. - When it updates a chat’s file, it rewrites only the chat part, and keeps what you wrote above or below it.
- Notion, Google Drive and GitHub hold what you send them in your own account, under their terms. On GitHub, you choose whether the repository is private or public; anyone can read chats in a public one.
- Keep your own backups of anything important. Your folder is on your computer, and only you can back it up.
The chat sites can change
None of these services offers a public way to read your chat history, so the extension reads it the way their own pages do. When a site changes, saving from it may stop until we ship a fix. The extension shows a notice when that happens. We work to keep every service running, and Pro gets fixes first, but we can’t promise it works at every moment.
Free and Pro
- Free has every feature, for 10 chats from all services together, kept up to date. A chat counts the first time it’s saved, by a sync, by hand or by an import. It needs no account.
- Pro saves every chat you’ve ever had, imports every chat in the data export of your chat services, and gets fixes first. The pricing page has the details. Pro needs an account.
- Monthly renews every month until you cancel. Cancel any time in the extension under Settings → Account and plan → Manage subscription. Pro stays on until the end of the month you paid for.
- Lifetime is one payment for Pro for as long as Chat to Markdown is offered, including Pro features added later.
- Payments are handled by Stripe. Prices include or exclude tax as shown at checkout.
- If a price changes, the new price applies from your next renewal, never to time you already paid for, and we email monthly subscribers before it does.
Refunds
Free has every feature, so you can try it fully before you pay. Because of that, payments are not refundable as a rule. Where the law gives you a right to a refund, you have it. If something went wrong with a payment, write to us and we will put it right.
Fair use
Don’t resell Pro, share one account among many people, or try to break or overload our server. We may close accounts that do.
No warranty
Chat to Markdown is provided “as is”. We do our best to make it reliable, but we don’t guarantee that it saves every chat, that it is always available, or that it is free of errors.
Limitation of liability
As far as the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for lost data or profits, and our total liability is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability that the law does not allow us to limit.
Ending
You can stop at any time: uninstall the extension and, if you have an account, write to us to delete it. Your files stay on your computer. If we ever stop offering Chat to Markdown, we will tell account holders by email at least 30 days before.
Changes to these terms
If we change these terms in a way that matters, we update the date at the top and tell account holders by email before the change takes effect.
